Inclement Weather

The safety of our passengers is our first priority. Decisions to suspend service will be made in close coordination with university administrators and the UGA Emergency Operations Center. In the event of inclement weather, UGA Transit will adjust service in the following manner:

  • In the event of an early closing of the University of Georgia due to inclement weather conditions, Campus Transit will operate vans and buses for one hour after the official closing. Campus Transit may continue to provide on-campus transit services beyond that time as road and weather conditions allow.
  • In the event of a delayed opening, service will begin one hour prior to the official opening as conditions allow. Passengers should be aware of the possibility of road closures and/or route detours and plan accordingly.
  • In the event of a full day closure, service will be suspended until the University reopens.
  • Notifications and alerts about fixed-route and paratransit services are available at tps.uga.edu. In cases of closure, updates will be posted to this website, TPS social media channels, and other official UGA Media Sources.
  • For the official status of the University in case of inclement weather, visit emergency.uga.edu.

Tornado Warning

UGA TPS follows all watches and warnings posted by the National Weather Service. In the case of a tornado warning, all transit services will be suspended for the safety of both passengers and operators. Bus operators will stop their vehicle at the closest safe location and assist passengers in evacuating to the nearest tornado shelter. Every effort will be made to resume regular as quickly as possible when the threat of severe weather has cleared. Passengers should be aware of the possibility of road closures and/or route detours and plan accordingly.
